Verde Kitami Fenix NTM and plywood bespoke kitchen.

Verde Kitami FENIX NTM plywood bespoke kitchen with U-shape layout and white quartz worktop, Huddersfield

Modern style green birch plywood kitchen manufactured for customer form Huddersfield

This case study presents a kitchen we designed and manufactured for a client in Huddersfield. The project follows our approach to bespoke kitchens, where every cabinet is built specifically for the space rather than based on fixed modules.

The layout is arranged in a practical U-shape with a generous peninsula, providing balanced preparation space and efficient circulation. All cabinetry was constructed from birch plywood, in line with our standard for fully bespoke plywood kitchens, offering structural strength and precise dimensional control.

The doors are finished in Verde Kitami, part of the FENIX NTM range. This super-matt surface was selected for its durability, subtle depth of colour, and low reflectivity. You can explore more examples of our FENIX NTM kitchens here.

The kitchen is fitted with high-quality Blum hardware, integrated Neff and Bora appliances, and is completed with a quartz worktop chosen to complement the muted green cabinetry.

Detailed Design and Spatial Planning

Every project begins with a structured consultation focused on how the space will actually function on a daily basis.

In this case, the most efficient solution was a U-shaped layout with an extended peninsula. This configuration allows:

  • Clear separation between cooking, preparation and storage zones
  • Efficient movement between sink, hob and refrigeration
  • Additional preparation surface without closing the room.

Because this is a fully bespoke kitchen, the dimensions were adjusted to suit wall lengths, ceiling height, and appliance integration, rather than adapted to fixed module sizes.

The result is a layout that feels proportionate and deliberate, rather than assembled from pre-set units.

Layout Efficiency and Ergonomics

Careful attention was given to:

  • Appliance height for comfortable daily use
  • Continuous worktop runs
  • Balanced distribution of tall and base cabinetry
  • Visual alignment of vertical lines

This level of control is only possible when cabinetry is manufactured specifically for the space.

Plywood Construction and Structural Integrity

All cabinets were manufactured from birch plywood in our independent workshop.

We do not use chipboard carcasses or factory-produced modules. Each cabinet is constructed to suit the project, allowing greater dimensional flexibility and long-term structural stability.

This approach offers:

  • Stronger cabinet bodies
  • More reliable fixings
  • Custom carcass heights beyond standard 720 mm systems
  • Improved moisture resistance compared to standard board systems

You can explore our broader approach to fully bespoke plywood kitchens to understand how this differs from modular alternatives.

Because we manufacture in-house, we maintain full control over precision, tolerances and finishing quality.

FENIX NTM Verde Kitami Finish

The doors are finished in Verde Kitami from the FENIX NTM range.

FENIX NTM is a super-matt nano-laminate surface developed for high-performance interior applications. It offers:

  • Low light reflectivity
  • Anti-fingerprint properties
  • High resistance to abrasion
  • Thermal repair of micro-scratches

Verde Kitami introduces a muted green tone that absorbs light rather than reflecting it, creating a calm and understated appearance.

For further examples of this material, see our dedicated section on FENIX NTM kitchens.

When paired with plywood construction, the combination delivers both structural durability and tactile refinement.

Appliance Integration and Hardware

The kitchen incorporates integrated Neff and Bora appliances, positioned at ergonomic height to improve daily usability.

Hardware selection focused on long-term performance and smooth operation. Drawer systems, hinges and internal fittings were specified at the design stage rather than added as secondary elements.

This ensures that internal function supports the architectural clarity of the layout.

Worktop and Material Balance

The quartz worktop was selected to complement the matte Verde Kitami fronts without overpowering them.

When specifying materials, we consider:

  • Surface durability
  • Light behaviour
  • Maintenance requirements
  • Long-term ageing characteristics

The contrast between matte cabinetry and the smooth quartz surface creates visual depth while maintaining cohesion.

Who This Kitchen Is Suitable For

This type of kitchen suits clients who:

  • Prefer matte finishes over gloss
  • Want precise dimensions rather than modular compromises
  • Value structural strength and longevity
  • Appreciate calm, contemporary design
  • Are investing in long-term quality rather than short-term trend appeal

If these priorities reflect your own, a bespoke plywood kitchen with FENIX NTM finishes may be an appropriate direction.

There is no obligation. However, understanding how a kitchen is designed and manufactured from scratch often clarifies the difference between a fully bespoke approach and modular systems.

Is FENIX NTM suitable for kitchens?

Yes. FENIX NTM is designed for high-use interior applications and offers excellent resistance to abrasion and surface marking. Its super-matt finish also reduces light reflection.

Is plywood better than chipboard for kitchen cabinets?

Birch plywood offers greater structural integrity and edge strength compared to standard chipboard systems. It performs reliably over time, particularly in kitchens where humidity can fluctuate.

Do you manufacture your kitchens in-house?

Yes. All cabinetry is manufactured in our independent workshop. We do not resell factory-produced modular kitchens.

Can cabinet sizes be customised?

Every cabinet is built to suit the specific room. We are not restricted by fixed widths, heights or plinth systems.
