This true handleless kitchen in Ilkley, West Yorkshire was developed in cooperation with Kastner Kitchens and Interiors Ltd. The design concept was prepared by Jerry Kastner and then technically refined and manufactured by JS DECO in our workshop.
Following joint consultations regarding proportions, appliance positioning and structural constraints of the room, we engineered a solution that balanced the designer’s vision, the client’s functional requirements and the optimal component specification within the agreed budget.
Unlike modular systems built around fixed cabinet widths, this project was manufactured as fully bespoke cabinetry, dimensioned precisely for the room. You can read more about our approach on the page explaining how bespoke furniture really works and how it differs from standard kitchen systems.

Project Overview – Modern Handleless Kitchen in Ilkley
The kitchen follows a clean contemporary handleless concept, combining aluminium rail profiles with subtle material contrast. Base and tall units are finished in soft light grey, while wall cabinets introduce satin matt white to visually lighten the upper section of the room.
The tonal variation is restrained. In photographs the difference appears minimal, yet in real space it creates depth without visual overload.
Integrated LED lighting is distributed evenly above and below the wall units, reinforcing the horizontal lines typical of a modern handleless composition. Brushed steel plinths further emphasise the architectural character of the furniture.
This project sits within our broader collection of luxury hand made bespoke kitchen furniture, where proportion control and detailing define the final outcome.

Layout Strategy and Material Composition
The kitchen follows a U shaped layout adapted to an unusual sloped ceiling configuration. One of the technical challenges was maintaining visual consistency while working around ceiling geometry.
To soften the aluminium and brushed steel detailing, the design incorporates oak effect display shelving and a solid oak L shaped table bar running across the room. This element introduces warmth while increasing preparation and informal dining space.
All cabinet dimensions were refined to achieve balanced vertical alignment despite ceiling irregularities. This is a typical advantage of our plywood core kitchen furniture system, where carcases are manufactured from scratch rather than selected from preset modules.
Ceramic XTone Worktop Specification
The primary worktop surface is manufactured from 12 mm thick XTone ceramic, combined with an under mounted ceramic sink, 100 mm upstand and full splashback.
XTone offers high resistance to scratches, heat and staining while maintaining structural rigidity at reduced thickness. The minimal 12 mm profile supports the modern handleless aesthetic without compromising durability.
We can also apply ceramic surfaces to furniture doors and panels as part of our XTone luxury ceramic faced kitchens specification for clients requiring maximum surface resilience.

Smart Storage Engineering
Storage performance was a central requirement. The cabinetry incorporates:
- Two LeMans corner pull out systems
- 400 mm wide tall larder pull out basket
- Twelve soft close drawers
- Hidden four section waste segregation system
Corner mechanisms eliminate inaccessible voids typical of standard L shaped kitchens. Full extension drawers allow complete visibility and access.
The majority of mechanical components are from Blum and Peka, selected for reliability and lifetime functional warranty. This level of internal engineering is part of our broader philosophy explained on our bespoke furniture process guide.

Integrated Appliances Configuration
This fitted kitchen integrates a complete appliance set including:
- Extra tall fridge freezer
- 60 cm dishwasher
- 90 cm hob with extractor
- Oven and combi oven
- Boiling water tap
Appliances are primarily from Neff and AEG, positioned ergonomically to maintain uninterrupted preparation zones between sink and hob.
For clients ordering directly from us, we also offer access to preferential pricing on selected premium appliances including Bertazzoni ranges, integrated within our fully bespoke kitchen projects.
